Gregory Nelson

Gregory Nelson died at his home near Dawson, MN on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at the age of 73.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Crossroads Lutheran Church in Dawson.  Pastor Tim Hatt will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home Friday, June 2 from 5 - 7:00 PM and at the church for one hour before the service.

Gregory Marvin Nelson was born November 27, 1949 at Dawson, MN the son of Marvin and Evelyn (Carl) Nelson.  He attended school in Dawson and graduated in 1967.  Greg graduated from Southwest State University in Marshall and then graduated with a degree in pharmacy from SDSU in Brookings.  He was united in marriage with Ione Carlson in Atwater, MN on June 13, 1981.  He worked as a pharmacist in Sioux City, IA and Graceville, MN  before he was able to purchase Nelson Rexall Drug in Dawson in 1984.  He and his wife continued to operate the drug store until retiring in April of 2023.  Greg was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed raising vegetables in his garden.  He would bring tomatoes from the garden to many of his clients.  He served on the board of lay ministry at Grace Lutheran Church and as a deacon at Crossroads Lutheran Church. 

He is survived by his wife, Ione; two children: Marvin (Jillian) Nelson of White Bear Lake, MN and Rebecca (Evan) Sturzl of St. Francis, MN; four grandchildren: Charlie, Ingrid, Grayson, and Hailey;  and a brother, Bryan (Sue) Nelson of Redwood Falls, MN.

Preceding him in death were his parents.
