Barbara Wick Obituary

Barbara Wick, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 87.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating.

Barbara Fay Wick was born on January 27, 1935 in Montevideo to Edward and Evelyn (Berquist) Doring.  She attended school in Montevideo until her senior year when the family moved to the Twin Cities area.  She graduated from Central High School in 1953.  Following high school she continued to live and worked at a bank in the Twin Cities.  She would often make trips back to Montevideo to see friends and that is how she met Clifford Wick.  The couple married on June 12, 1955 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  They made their home on the farm just north and east in Rosewood Township.  They had five children: Cindy, Nancy, Kenneth, Karen, and Brenda.  Barbara was a homemaker and farmed with her husband.  They were best known in area and even in other nearby states for their strawberries. In later years Barbara would work as a cook in the Montevideo Schools and for Prairie 5.

Barbara was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and had a strong faith.  She will be remembered by family and friends for her banana bread and Norwegian treats.  She would pass down her baking and cooking to her children and to her grandchildren.  Barbara and Clifford were instrumental in getting the Farmer’s market in Montevideo up and running.  In her later years she enjoyed crafting, doing jigsaw puzzles, coloring, making homemade stamp cards, and playing bingo and other card games.  Her family will cherish that she was a kind and compassionate person, but also had a little feistiness to go with the sweetness.

Barbara is survived by her children: Nancy Wick, Montevideo, Ken Wick, Metro Area, MN, Karen Johnson, St. Cloud, MN, and Brenda Gremmels, Montevideo; grandchildren: Crystal Ervin, Kay Puetz, Spencer Wick, Jeff Johnson, Andy Gremmels, Tony Gremmels, Alex Gremmels, and Abby Gremmels; great-grandchildren: Lauren, Charlie, Hannah, Oliver, and Madelyn; as well as extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifford; daughter, Cindy; brother, Gene Doring; sister-in-law, Vivian Doring; and son-in-law, Mike Gremmels.
